Our Portfolio
ProNAi Therapeutics, Inc. is an emerging biopharmaceutical company that is leveraging its novel and proprietary nucleic acid-based interfering technology, DNAi(r), to advance a next generation of therapies for patients with cancer and other complex genetic diseases. ProNAi has a robust product pipeline of DNA-related therapies with the potential to treat multiple diseases. While the Company's initial clinical focus is in oncology, ProNAi believes its DNA-related therapies also have potential in other disease categories such as diabetes, Alzheimer's and inflammatory disease. Afmedica is a privately held, drug coated device company, founded in 2002 by the Apjohn Group and the Fischell family. Apjohn Group partners provided the first 12 to 18 months of business and scientific talent to launch the company and raise the first rounds of capital. This pre-clinical stage company was focused on commercializing its broad intellectual property covering anti-proliferative, cyto-static drugs such as Sirolimus, on a variety of devices for the prevention of scar tissue formation after surgical procedures. It was successfully exited in October 2005 when acquired by Angiotech [ANPI]. Please visit http://www.angiotech.com/ for more information.
Axenic Dental is a dental device company focusing on currently unmet market needs in the Dental Profession with emphasis in the area of disposable plastic tools. Axenic was co-founded by the Apjohn Group in September 2005 and very quickly met significant milestones in staffing, fundraising, product design and development. In February 2008, Axenic Dental, Inc. announced receipt of U.S. Food and Drug Administration clearance to market a new, patented disposable high-speed dental drill, the Axenic DHP (Disposable High Performance). Armune BioScience, Inc. was formed to develop and commercialize protein signature-based diagnostic tests for prostate, lung and breast cancer that will allow physicians and patients to make better treatment decisions. The technology on which the company is based was developed in the laboratory of Drs. Arul Chinnaiyan and David Beer at the University of Michigan Medical School. Armune’s technology works by taking advantage of the body’s natural ability to detect cancer through the immune system response. Upon recognition of cancer cells, the immune system creates a signal, an auto-antibody that is replicated and amplified to a level that is detectable in the blood serum using an Armune BioScience diagnostic test. Aursos, Inc.
Aursos was founded in March of 2007. The Company has licensed technology developed at Michigan Technological University in the laboratory of Dr. Seth Donahue on the family of naturally-occurring parathyroid Hormone (PTH) proteins found in the black bear (Ursus americanus). The therapeutic mission of the company is to develop black bear PTH (BB-PTH) 1-34 for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis. The Company may also seek orphan drug status for BB-PTH 1-34 for patients who are suffering from osteoporosis due to chronic immobilization. Aursos will evaluate the potential for development of other constructs of BB-PTH for the same types of indications (i.e., prevention and treatment of osteoporosis and chronic immobilization). MuciMed, Inc.
MuciMed Inc. was incorporated in Delaware in May, 2005 and the Company's business
and research efforts are focused on developing and commercializing mucin
proteins for the treatment of gastrointestinal disease. MuciMed's objectives
are to develop novel protein therapeutics for the important treatment of
Crohn's Disease, ulcerative colitis, and other colitides collectively known
as Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). MuciMed's mucin recombinant proteins
seek to restore the first line intestinal mucosal defense, the epithelial
cell layer separating luminal bacteria and toxins from the immune system.
This represents a novel mechanism to interrupt the vicious cycle of ulceration
and inflammation in the intestine by restoring the protective epithelial
cell layer. This targeted approach may be useful by itself or in combination
with other current therapies to treat this difficult disease. For more information

MedElute Inc.
MedElute is in preclinical development of a drug-eluting product to treat post-surgical adhesions (scars that form abnormal connections between tissue surfaces) using a highly novel anti-platelet approach. Post-surgical adhesion formation is a natural consequence of surgery, resulting when tissue repairs itself following incision, cauterization, suturing, or other means of trauma.
